Corporate Political Contributions Subject to Reporting Requirements
A recent Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling means that the Minnesota law requiring the reporting of political contributions made by Minnesota corporations will remain effective. The parties opposing the law argued that requiring disclosure of political contributions infringes on a corporations freedom to support candidates and causes, thus limiting free speech. The Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals disagreed. It is uncertain whether the decision will be appealed.
