Welcome to the Wendland Utz News Page
As our society becomes more and more technology oriented (and dependent), businesses are adopting new methods of reaching out to and interacting with their customers and clients. Law firms are no different. We are anxious to share our legal practice and services with those looking for an experienced, energetic and creative firm.
It is with that in mind that we are launching this news page. It is our objective to provide our clients with an additional medium with which to connect to our firm. We will provide periodic updates on legal developments and issues that we encounter, upcoming events for the many community and nonprofit groups we are involved in, and insights into the firm’s personnel.
We hope you will continue to check back here for more new information in the future.

Assumed Name Registration Requirements
Anyone doing business in Minnesota using a name other than their true full name must file an Assumed Name Registration with the Minnesota Secretary of State. This requirement applies to natural persons, corporations, limited liability companies, trusts and any other business entities.
Assumed name registrations were effective for a 10-year term, and could be extended for additional 10-year terms. In 2009, however, Minnesota Statute Section 333.055 was amended to require annual registration of assumed names. This requirement takes effect as soon as the Minnesota Secretary of State’s information systems are updated to accommodate this change in the law. The Secretary of State’s office has informed us that this update should be completed by July 2010. Therefore, all new assumed name certificates filed with the Secretary of State after the (anticipated) July 2010 effective date will be subject to the annual renewal requirements. Assumed name certificates that were filed before July 2010 do not need to be renewed annually during their initial 10 year term. However, the annual renewal requirement will become effective when that initial 10-year term expires.
